Published in 2009 by Editora Record, Mila Burns’ first book, “Nasci para sonhar e cantar. Dona Ivone Lara – a mulher no samba,” is an adaptation of her M.A. dissertation at UFRJ. It is a study of gender, project and mediation, which intends to understand how a woman was able to find space in a masculine environment such as the samba compositions one.
The book narrates the trajectory of Dona Ivone Lara, the first woman to write a samba for a samba school. From her childhood to stardom, it is an opportunity to know about her inspiring life, full of music, hard work and talent.
